Metadata Analyst at Internet Archive Canada

Internet Archive Canada (IAC) seeks a skilled Metadata Analyst to join our team and contribute to our mission of providing universal access to all knowledge. This role will play a crucial part in our large-scale digitization projects and metadata management initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with traditional sources of bibliographic metadata, including government records and library catalogs
  • Translate metadata from legacy standards (e.g., MARC, Dublin Core) into Internet Archive's flexible, customizable schema
  • Create, maintain, and update metadata using Internet Archive's API-driven system
  • Explore and implement AI tools for metadata generation and image description

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Science, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience working with large-scale metadata management or data analysis in any sector (e.g., libraries, government, e-commerce, finance, healthcare)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse data structures and metadata schemas
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python preferred) for data manipulation and analysis
  • Strong understanding of database management systems and experience with SQL
  • Familiarity with API-based data management and RESTful web services
  • Experience with data transformation and mapping between different schemas or formats
  • Familiarity with JSON and XML formats for metadata manipulation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of library or archival metadata standards (e.g., MARC, Dublin Core, RDA)
  • Experience with digital repository software platforms or content management systems
  • Understanding of data privacy and security best practices
  • Experience with machine learning or AI applications in data analysis or metadata creation

Compensation

$65,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
